Football
Easy to mess up isn’t the same as hard. Many people would take the gronkoswki method. More “average” players just need to keep their head out of the clouds. This is not across the board but now we have kids making money out of high school in the US. Proper financial parenting is more needed.
It also depends on where youre living. I was on the U.S team for a sport that the U.S does not care about lol. We had 0 funding. Going to nationals was out of your pocket. The olympic training center is either in upstate NY or CO. Whearas friends that i made in other countries, although they werent getting paid, travel costs were covered. Food was covered. So many expenses were covered and if they won the gold medal they were treated as national heroes

In team sports – coaches, physios etc are paid for by the team, all equipment, transport, accommodation supplied by the team.
In tennis and golf the player has to pay for all those things out of their (likely) meagre prize money.
Team sports are much more feasible as a career path
Ever heard of football-players (not handegg)? They make millions a year. And there are way more. And when their career ends, they become trainers or coaches.
Respectfully – WRONG, being a great golfer has very little to do with being a great Head Pro, Golf Director or GM. Similarly, the skills to be a great touring musician are not the same skills to be a great music director or teacher.
There are literally thousands of footballers on millions per year just in the top leagues across the world.
Who says that an athlete needs to earn all their income from their athletic career. You only need to do that if you decided to live like you are going to be earning $2 million a year for 20 years. But if you live modestly, you can have a great nest egg, which lets you live when you have a more modest second career.
He is wrong. Golfers outside of the top 200 in the world struggle and need sponsors to keep them going
this guy never heard of tennis teachers? i used to pay like 40 euros a leeson with 4 other people who also paid that and my teacher is nowhere near top 200 of the world….

Don’t golfers have to pay their way in tournaments though? I doubt the bottom 10k people would have enough money and sponsors to play as a career

i mean, most premier league teams have what a squad of 30? the 10000 best player, is likely in league one or the scottish league or wtv, ur still gonna earn 100k a year, then get oppurtunites to coach at a lower level on 30/40k a year for part time work, and at a higher level up to 100k, with food expenses etc covered, mediocre football players who manage money well are looked after
You gotta be TALL to play tennis. It is so competitive and then you have doubles and singles and all the different levels to play through. Extremely tough.

I always found it odd that Olympians for example of they don't make a name for themselves, they're screwed in retirement, as most of them haven't been doing job experience the whole time they've been training, and now they hage no brand deals or anything to support them. There's gotta be some kinda support system here from the government I think.
